Bout of Books 10: Sign Up & Goals

It’s time for another Bout of Books Readathon! This one is great because it takes place over the course of a week, so it’s just about challenging yourself to read a little more than you normally would.

The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, May 12th and runs through Sunday, May 18th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure, and the only reading competition is between you and your usual number of books read in a week. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 10 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. – From the Bout of Books team

I ended up really loving the spreadsheet I used to keep track of my reading during the last Dewey’s Readathon, so I think I’m going to use that again to update a post I start Monday. What are my goals?

  • Read at least 3 books
  • Read at least 1200 pages
  • Participate in at least 1 Twitter chat
  • Participate in at least one mini-challenge
And what are my book options?
I’m sure I won’t get through them all, but I definitely want to finish The Quick and hopefully finish a few more.
Are you joining in on Bout of Books? What are you hoping to read?
  • Karsyn Smith

I’m definitely joining in. I don’t usually plan out books, but I have a few in mind. So far I’ve set aside Giving In by Maya Banks for my first read, then I hope to tackle the last book I need to read in a few series to get them caught up or done. Looking forward to it!

  • I’m so jealous of you reading The Map Thief. It’s been on my TBR for forever (okay, ever since I heared from the book). Good luck and (more importantly) have fun reading!

  • I’m glad to see that you have Flying Shoes in your pile. To me it had a real Southern feel to it. It will be interesting to see what someone from the south thinks about it.

  • Ti Reed

I love the idea of this one. Gives you a little more time to get some books read. I wish I could join in.

  • Silver’s Reviews

Those look like some really good books. ENJOY them all.

  • Have fun! Your pile looks great. I’m particularly interested in Flying Shoes–which looks heartbreaking–and Bittersweet (though I wonder if both are just a bit too dark for me!). I’m looking forward to reading your thoughts on them.

  • Good luck! I’ve got a whole stack which I definitely won’t be reading all of. But one of them (The River of No Return) is one I’ve already had out of the library a couple times and returned unread, so that one I’ll be reading for sure.

  • I’m hoping to get through Gameboard of the Gods by Richelle Mead.

    • That one’s pretty chunky, but I bet you’ll get through it!

      • I hope so too! I get to preview the sequel and I only have until the 29th to get it reviewed!!! I really had to push through the first 4 chapters but it is pretty good after that.

  • It was finally my turn on the hold list for Eleanor and Park! Saving it for Bout of Books. That and Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn. And finishing up The Thirteenth Tale. Oh and Torch by Cheryl Strayed. So excited for next week!!!

    • Those all sound great – Eleanor & Park and any Gillian Flynn are super quick reads, so they’re perfect picks. I’m a total Cheryl Strayed fangirl, but I still haven’t read Torch (I just picked up a used copy at a library sale), so I’ll be looking forward to seeing what you think!

      • After reading Wild I immediately wanted to read Torch!! I quickly became a fangirl of hers too after Wild!

  • Jennine G.

Yay! Another Bout of Booker! I’m going to go with the flow, so who knows if I’ll follow my initial choices for this read-a-thon?

  • Great goal! I’m planning on 4 (possibly 5) books- Anansi Boys, Ready Player One
The Loch, Curses! A F***ed-Up Fairytale and then Dorothy Must Die if I have time :)

  • Kerry M

Great list! I’ve never participated in Bout of Books, but since it looks like Friday and Sunday are going to be travel days for me, I think I’ll sign up this year… thanks for the reminder :-)

  • I realllllllly want to get to The Map Thief eventually. Looking forward to hearing what you think.

  • Vasilly

Flying Shoes is on my tbr list. Happy reading and good luck with your goals.

  • Jenna

I’ll admit I’ve never heard of these books – how sad! That being said, they do sound interesting. I also love your goals! Best of luck to you. :)

  • Stacy (The Novel Life)

I have never participated in Bout of Books but it sounds like loads of fun! thinking I may just have to sign up :-)

  • Go, Shannon, go!!!!

  • Sarah Lisle

Ooooh the map thief looks intriguing. *adds to to-read pile*

  • Isi

I can’t participate in this readathon because my exams start just after the readathon finishes (on May 19), so I’m very sad about it.
Howevery, I know I’ll someday participate in this one :)
Hope you get your goals and have a great time.
I’ll be also reading The quick in June.

  • Words for Worms

Oooh I hope you like The Map Thief! I enjoyed it.

  • I like your goals! Good luck and happy reading!!
