It’s Monday May 5th, What Are You Reading?

May, you’re the best! Another week, another amazing book. The great things you’re hearing about All the Light We Cannot See? They’re true. I tried to start reading The Transcriptionist by Amy Rowland midweek and got about halfway through before I put it down. I’m still not sure if I’ll come back to it or not, but being on this great streak is making me feel a little relentless toward books that don’t grab me…and, sadly, I just wasn’t feeling it. The good news? I picked up Lauren Owen’s The Quick and The Year She Left Us by Kathryn Ma last night and both seem to be doing the trick so far.
  • I have a copy of The Quick I really want to pick up soon – so I hope it continues to keep you satisfied!

  • I love the way you bounce around from book to book. I am a monogamous reader. One book and one book only. Funnny how different things work for different people.

I am, too, Tanya – I don’t know how people read two books at once!

  • Love the cover of The Year She Left Us!

  • I have The Quick on my stack but won’t be reading it until it is nearer the publication date. I’m glad you are enjoying it. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

I had a feeling you abandoned The Transcriptionist when you went from reading it to just “added” on GoodReads. It’s so unlike you to abandon a book! But I know what you mean – after All the Light I wanted the next book I read to be equally amazing and I’m kind of slogging through it. I can’t put it down because I’m reviewing it for a tour but I totally would have if I had the choice. It’s the effect of the book! (and great books in general.)

    • I do try to hang on through as many books as I can, but I’m starting to wonder if that has been putting me in these slumps. I think I’m going to try this for a bit…at least setting aside what’s not working and possibly coming back. We’ll see how it goes!

An Untamed State is up next for me and then The Quick. So excited for the Victorian goodness!

    • Brace yourself for An Untamed State. It’s really tough to get through the first half, but it’s such a powerful book.

  • Jennine G.

I’m working my way through a review list still, so I’m on to Closed Doors by Lisa O’Donnell! Coming out mid May I believe. The Quick looks interesting!

I also just started The Quick over the weekend. Really liking it so far.

    • I love the Victorian feel of the beginning and now it’s starting to take a different turn that has me so curious!

  • I gave up on a book last night, too. Too many books, too little time — we have to go with the books that work for us!

    • I usually try to hang on as much as I can, but I think that it might have been contributing to the slumpy feeling I’ve been having. You’re definitely right about there being too many books. I’m going to see how it works to try setting books aside a little easier – hopefully it makes for happier reading!

    • I always say that too–so many books so little time! I too feel guilty putting books down in the middle of them if I’m not super interested, but life is too short for books you’re not loving, right? Speaking of loving books…currently reading The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield and loving it!

  • I’m glad you found some books to grab you. I need to be better about letting myself ditch books that aren’t blowing my skirt up. I would get much more read that way and my mojo would be better. Mojo = most overused word in my life right now. I’m switching to juju.

The Quick sounds interesting. And I love the cover, too! How can you resist a book with books on the cover?
