It’s Monday August 25th, What Are You Reading?

mondayHonestly? I haven’t picked up a book* in three days and I feel itchy. I spent the weekend in Asheville, North Carolina celebrating Booktopia, which was incredible, but despite all the bookishness I didn’t have any reading time. I have about 100 pages left of Matthew Thomas’ We Are Not Ourselves and I’m going to pick up Neverhome by Laird Hunt in just a minute to get my fix. Once I can function, I’ll be able to wrap up all the Booktopia greatness!

*I’m lying. I picked up dozens of books this weekend…I just didn’t read any.

It’s Monday, What Are You Reading?

  • I’m so glad you got to go to NC! Happy reading this week. :)

  • I’m reading The Little Friend by Donna Tartt, which is better than expected thus far. Happy reading :)

  • I just posted my review of We Are Not Ourselves…that was an emotional one! I also just started Whiskey Tango Foxtrot by David Shafer…yet another debut. It’s completely surprised me so far (in a good way)! Hope you had fun at Booktopia!

    • I’m going to wait to read your review until I’m finished, but I’ll definitely check it out once I’m done!

  • JoAnn @ Lakeside Musing

I loved We Are Not Ourselves… brace yourself for the end! I’m reading An American Tragedy by Theodore Dreiser – very long, but surprisingly good.

    • I feel like it’s taking me so long to finish for some reason! I’m very, very curious how it’s going to end, though.

I can’t wait to hear about your Booktopia trip.

I have both of these books waiting in the wings. I also have a giveaway for We Are Not Ourselves on my blog this week courtesy of the publisher.

I am looking forward to Neverhome.

Have a great week, and I will be looking for your update from your trip. Leaving my link to my Mailbox Monday.

I look forward to hearing about Booktopia. I love Asheville and live in NC, wish I had known about it sooner! I finished The Story Hour by Thrity Umrigar for my stop on the blog tour and have been working hard lining up author interviews and giveaways to go with our Travel the World in Books Readathon from Sept 1-14. Hope you will join us!

  • I can’t wait to hear about Booktopia! I’m about halfway through Neverhome, right now. The voice takes some getting used to, but it’s pretty good!

    • I just started it a few minutes ago and love that the voice seems like it’s stumbling over itself a bit. Curious where it’s going to go!

  • AnnabelSmith

I hate it when I don’t have any time for reading. It’s my favourite way to wind down. I’m currently reading Richard Powers Orfeo. I think it’s pretty amazing.

  • Words for Worms

LOL, you look like you had a blast at Booktopia! I’m jealous. I’m also excited to hear what you think of We Are Not Ourselves. I finished it last week and woah.

    • I’m having back and forth feelings, but I’ve heard the end is a doozy…so I’m holding out serious thoughts :)

Im a few hours away from finishing “The Master & Margarita”. A weirdie but a goodie

  • My husband Facebook messaged me earlier and said, “You got a huge hardcover chunkster in the mail today.” Andddd that would be We Are Not Ourselves!

  • Cry Father by Ben Whitmer

    • Oh, I’m so curious about that book. You’ll have to let me know if it’s on par with all the other great gritty ones.

  • I’m looking forward to hear your opinions about We Are Not Ourself. It’s on my tbr list.

  • Am determined to finish Middlemarch this week as part of my plan to read more classics. Don’t know if I can take on more than that though I do have Fallout by Sadie Jones waiting in the wings

Back to school/work shopping is siphoning off my reading time. I am almost finished THE UNIVERSE VERSUS ALEX WOODS by Gavin Extence and honestly, I am fine with how long it’s taking me to complete it. It’s a book to savour and to ponder. I am also reading FLIRTING WITH FRENCH by William Alexander which I snagged from the July batch of ARCs from Librarything.

    • I’ve heard really great things about The Universe Versus Alex Woods. Hope you have a great week of reading!

  • I am going to read Neverhome soon as well . . . it really peaked my interest! I also read We Are Not Ourselves–definitely a powerful novel, although there were some things I disliked about the book.

    • I’m enjoying We Are Not Ourselves, but it’s not as great as I thought it would be. I did hear the ending packs a punch, though…so I’m holding out hope!

      • Yep, it does pack a killer punch…. Takes too long to get there, in my view, but the ending is really something!

I just started Twelve Years a Slave for book club but I am not really in the mood to read it right now.
