It’s Monday December 1st, What Are You Reading?

monday

Well, today feels a little like crawling out of a four day cocoon…but what a glorious cocoon it was. I had a wonderfully relaxing Thanksgiving mini-break filled with a ton of books. After wrapping up the reading I started last week, I started and finished Cry Father by Benjamin Whitmer, which was a great, punchy little whirlwind. Though I meant to just add the e-galley of Selfish, Shallow and Self-Absorbed to my Kobo, I wound up reading close to half of it over the weekend. Plus, I finally picked up Emily St. John Mandel’s Station Eleven from the library and spent most of yesterday in a pile of blankets pouring through it.

Just a reminder that the final round of voting for Book Blogger Top Picks ends on Saturday! Get those votes in!

It’s Monday, What Are You Reading?

  • Oh – now I need to read Cry, Father it appears! I added it to my list after a glowing review (can’t remember who it was!), but will try to get to it this year. Glad you loved Station Eleven – I did too! I just finished Untamed State and just restarted Florence Gordon last night. Happy Thanksgiving!

    • Cry Father is pretty brutal, but if that’s your thing (it’s definitely mine!) than you’ll dig it for sure.

      • Well, I finished An Untamed State last night and am still alive, so I think I might give it a shot…not right on the heels of Untamed State, though!!

  • These are all new to me. I’m glad you enjoyed them. Come see my week. Happy reading!

That sounds like an amazing weekend! I didn’t get a lot of extra reading done because we were spending time with the family. But I remember getting a lot of additional reading done in the stretch between Christmas and New Year’s last year, so we will see….

Can’t wait to read your thoughts on Station Eleven!

    • We were flying solo during Thanksgiving this year, but I know I totally missed out on reading time during the holidays last year so I definitely understand!

  • What did you think of Station Eleven? It was a mixed bag for me–I wanted more development of the post-apocalyptic stuff, less of the pre-flu time.

    • I have just under 100 pages left, but I’m in love with it. I feel like there’s a great balance and, actually, the pre-flu stuff is kind of what caught me in the beginning.

I am curious about Station Eleven…thanks for sharing your week, and here are

    MY WEEKLY UPDATES

  • I didn’t get any more reading time after my Station Eleven update to you yesterday, so I’m hoping to finish it tonight. :) What a great reading (long) weekend you had!

    • I couldn’t stop myself and trudged through like 200 pages yesterday, but got so sleepy with like 80 left. I’m off to read the rest right now!

  • I’ve finally begun Lean In by Sheryl Sandberg, a year after receiving it. I’ve only read the introduction thus far, but her writing is very accessible.

Have a wonderful reading week :)

    • I’ve heard so many mixed things that I’ve been nervous about reading it, so I’m looking forward to hearing what you think!

  • I love reading with blankets wrapped around me. :)

Looks like you have some good books. Station Eleven looks good to me.

    ENJOY this week.

My It’s Monday, What Are You Reading

  • Station Eleven is an excellent book to read from within a pile of blankets!

  • YAY for Station Eleven, such a wonderful book; so glad you’re finally reading it

  • Amy Sachs

I think Station Eleven is the book of 2014 EVERYONE seems to have read and I’m behind on! I have it on my Kindle, though, so there’s still hope!

  • AnnabelSmith

I really loved Station Eleven. I’m reading some personal development books at the moment, no fiction. Getting my mind set straightened out for the new year!

  • I just grabbed the e-edition of Station Eleven ! Hope it’s as good as it sounds.

  • Jennine G.

Sounds glorious! I had a relaxing vacation too, but I never seem to get as much reading done as I think I will. Today was wash clothes and buy food before real life sets in again tomorrow…booo! How long until Christmas?!

  • I read like a paragraph of Station Eleven over the weekend. I think I could get into it. I think. #partscrossed
