Time for #24in48

It’s almost time for #24in48 and I think I’m going to head in a bit early! I won’t start recording until the official start time, but I have a free afternoon and George Saunders’ In Persuasion Nation waiting for me, so I’m ready to get to it. Just like I’ve done in previous readathons, I’ll keep everything updated in this post, while sharing on Twitter and Instagram, too. I made a pretty small stack this time around, but my house has plenty of books should I happen to fly through these.

Dryland by Sara Jaffe

The Strange Library by Haruki Murakami

Beneath the Bonfire by Nickolas Butler

8 AM, Day 1

Good morning, chickadees! My pup decided to wake me up around 6, so I’ve actually been at this for a little bit now. I guess that’s a good thing, since I didn’t quite make it to ring in the readathon at midnight last night. I ended up with some leftover pages of In Persuasion Nation (boooo, I hate not starting fresh), but I knocked those out this morning and feel like I’m off to a good start. Here’s the good ol’ readathon spreadsheet!

6:30 PM, Day 1

Welllll, I’ve been a little easily distracted today, kids. I don’t even know how, seeing as I haven’t done much of anything! But I’m sitting at about 4.5 hours read, which means that 24 hour mark is pretty unlikely, especially when I’m about to head to a book club gathering here soon. I did start and finish The Strange Library and got a good start on the rest of my books (they’re both great), so finishing my pile is still in the cards.

8:00 AM, Day 2

I’ve been up for a few hours, making a serious attempt at getting more read today, and it’s working. I read a little of Dryland and finished Beneath the Bonfire, which I absolutely loved. I’m definitely having great luck with the books on this one. My stack is running low, though, so I’ll need to grab something else from the shelf. Here’s hoping today will go a little better and everyone else enjoys the rest of their #24in48!

9:30 PM, Day 2

Well, this will probably be my last update until I share my weekly reading tomorrow (though I plan to be up for a few more hours). I didn’t quite get through half of the 24 hours on this one, but I did get a ton of reading done and I really loved what I read. I ended up picking up Jill Leovy’s Ghettoside after finishing up my stack, so that’s what I’m sticking with for the rest of the night!

  • SO PUMPED. Have a good reading weekend! I’m sure I’ll be sending you nonsense messages across social media.

  • Yay! I’m participating, too. I am not starting out fresh, though. I really need to finish my library books. I have 100 pages left in The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton and about 300-350 pages in Outlander.

  • Katherine Nabity

I always like a good spreadsheet. :) Happy Reading!

  • Way to go, Shannon; you did great! Had I not been on my way back from vacation I would definitely have participated in this one. What did you think of Dryland? Worth a read? I love Nickolas Butler…
