It’s Monday, September 7th. What Are You Reading?

I couldn’t be happier that this weekend has three days because I desperately need them. We have a contract on a house now, so we have to finish up a few more projects and get our house listed by the end of the week. Frazzled is probably the best description at this point.

That drifty-mind feeling has made focusing on dense nonfiction like Black Earth extremely difficult, so it’s just getting tiny bits of my attention at this point. Thankfully, Margo Jefferson’s Negroland was quick and engaging, which was exactly the type of read I needed to get me through the week. Margaret Atwood’s The Heart Goes Last seems like it will be tough to put down, so I’m hoping it will be another one that works for me.

It’s Monday, What Are You Reading?

  • Congrats on your contract! That’s exciting! I’m glad Negroland has been hitting the spot…I’ve had my eye on that one as well!

  • Lindsey Stefan

I’m excited to hear what you think of the new Atwood. I’m so glad she gives us a new book every few years!
Good luck with all the house/moving stuff!

  • Contract!? That’s so exciting! But I’m sure stressful as well. Hope the projects go well today and the books start clicking; I’ve got Atwood on my stack this week as well and really hope to find the time (which is what I said last week…).

  • How exciting! I hope the whole housing changeover goes smoothly. We’re looking to do this soon as well, and, well, it gives me the heebie jeebies.

  • YAY new house! I hope it all goes well and off without a hitch! I love your reading list this week—I entered a Goodreads giveaway for Black Earth (but I never seem to win those things), and for sure I’m going to pick up the Atwood when it’s released. I have Negroland on my radar thanks to you, too! Have a great day. :)

  • Congrats on the house news, and good luck with finishing your projects and getting your house listed. I can definitely understand why you’re having trouble focusing on reading!

    • It’s been quite tricky to get my mind in the right place…we’ll see if I get any reading done this week!

  • That IS a lot going on! Good luck!
I have a number of non fiction books sitting on my shelves that I want so much to read (A Train in Winter, Stalin’s Daughter, The Invention of Murder, a bio of Queen Victoria) and I just can’t get into them right now. I do not have the focus – a malady that seems to be hitting a lot of us just now. I’m looking forward to getting it back! Until then, crime fiction might be the only answer.

  • Vasilly

Nice stack! Negroland is on my tbr list, but I’ll wait for your review first before I read it. I FINALLY have a copy of The New Jim Crow. Have you read it yet?

  • That is so exciting, although I understand what you mean by frazzled. Good luck with everything – especially selling your house!

    • Thank you! Everything is happening so fast, I hope we don’t run into sudden brakes once we put it on the market.

  • I’m happy to hear that you think the new Atwood will be hard to putdown :)
Good luck with all your projects!

Man, I’ve been having trouble concentrating and I don’t even have a house deal in the works. Do have a floor-refinishing, but that pales in compare. Congratulations on the contract, can’t wait to see the new digs. Despite my concentration issues, I’m enjoying Fishbowl and am just about to start a new non-fiction on the ebooky that I can’t remember the name of. That bodes well, doesn’t it?

  • I didn’t get anything done this weekend that I wanted to. I’m a mess. September is such a stressful month for me! Argh! I do want to get some reading done this evening before bed. I am determined to do it.

  • These ALL look good. Where do I sign up of for bonus reading time???

  • Sounds like some good reads. I picked a few on my site I want to get for Sept. Atwood’s looks interesting for sure.

  • Busy, busy! Fingers crossed that everything goes off without a hitch.

I’ve found Heart to be a very quick read so far, though I’m nearly 30% in and still not sure what I make of it. Can’t wait to chat about it!

  • You always have interesting reads, Shannon! I’ve been wanting read that Atwood for a while now – crossing my fingers that’ll be a good one for you!

  • Girl, if you have some trick to focus on reading while going through a house sell/buy, please share it. I’m at my wits end with mine but all this hard work WILL pay off. I can feel it. (For both of us!) Best of luck with everything!

    • Ugh, ZERO tricks! I’ve read a whopping total of 18 pages this week…complete madness. Crossing my fingers for you!
