Dewey’s 24-Hour Readathon: October 2015

Boy, am I ever glad to see you, my dear, sweet Readathon. I’ve been desperate for a day devoted to books and I’m determined to make it happen. Putting together a pile for this one was super hard—my reading has been dragging and I just want to pick up all the things. But I managed, and the stack is looking good.

Not Dark Yet by Berit Ellingsen

The Glacier by Jeff Wood

Accidental Saints by Nadia Bolz-Weber

Notorious RBG by Irin Carmon and Shana Knizhnik

Radioactive by Lauren Redniss

I’ll be checking in here a few times throughout the day, but plan to share most of my updates on Twitter and Instagram. Here’s to another great Readathon!

Hour 1: 8am (Intro Survey)

1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today?
The absolutely gorgeous (and freshly chilly) Richmond, Virginia.

2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?
I set myself up with a great mix this time, so I’m pretty excited for all of them. I’ve been looking forward to Radioactive for a long time, but I think I might wait until later tonight because it glows in the dark!

3) Which snack are you most looking forward to?
I woke up early this morning to get cheeseburger soup going in the crock pot. I’ve never made it before, but here’s hoping. There’s also some chips in my future.

4) Tell us a little something about yourself!
You guys always stick me with this question. I have a dog? She’s cute. I really hope my realtor doesn’t call in the middle of the day and ask if someone can come see our house because I have big plans for books and all day PJ’s.

5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to?
I’ve been around this block for a bit, but this is the first time in a long while I haven’t helped much behind the scenes (I wish I had been able to!). It’s going to be strange.

Hour 5: 12pm

Readathon

Rolling into Hour 5 and I finished my first book, Accidental Saints by Nadia Bolz-Weber, a little over an hour ago. I took a break to watch the new episode of The Knick with my husband (SO GOOD), and now it’s time to get back into a book. Let’s hope I can make a decision and keep the active pup at bay for a little longer.

Hour 11: 6pm

Readathon2

I’m still kicking and on book three! Even though I’ve done a ton of Readathons, I’m always amazed how much I can get through if I actually set the internet aside and read. I’m pretty much in love with Notorious RBG, and have enjoyed my reads so far, but I’m starting to feel some mood reading coming on. I just might have to bust out of the stack and into something random after this one is finished.

Hour 17: 12am

readathon3

Well, I made it to midnight with four books down. Radioactive was gorgeous, just as I’d hoped. I’m thinking I might not last too much longer, so I’m not sure I want to start a new book. I’ll likely work on reading more of The Dead Duke, His Secret Wife, and the Missing Corpse, which I started earlier this week, until I pass out. We’ll see how long that lasts!
