It’s Monday, January 11th. What Are You Reading?

Reading? Yikes. Do I have to rename my blog River City Unpacking? This is my kitchen right now. As you can see, I did this really hilarious thing where I decided not to pack a stack of books with the thought I could squeeze in time to read, but that stack hasn’t moved in four days. Nor has that armchair, which is still in my dining room. Needless to say, I’m staring down the same books I started last week.

But I did want to pop in and say hello. I’m not sure when all of this will be put away, but that means you can have fun playing find the deodorant and toaster on my kitchen counter while I take a few days to unpack. I’ll be back soon to tell you how much I loved Your Heart is a Muscle the Size of a Fist!

It’s Monday, What Are You Reading?

  • At least you’ve finally moved out of Lowe’s! Sending you all sorts of strength to power through this phase and get that armchair in a cozy reading spot stat.

  • Unpacking is still WAY better than packing… because at least that means the moving part is over! I hope it goes well, and get snuggled into your new home right quick. I too loved Your Heart is A Muscle, and I can’t wait to read your take on it.

  • Love that picture! Wishing you a speedy unpacking, so you can get back to your books. :)

  • Elena

Hope the moving is going well! Also, how is that cutie pie of yours doing in your new house? Does she like it? If it helps, I am not moving and I’m still readin the same books I was reading last week – although I did a lot of post-Christmas tyding up

  • Good luck unpacking! I’m sure everything will find its place soon enough. Then you can get back to reading and crush it :) Love the pic btw!

  • Rebecca Foster

Oh how I hate the moving process! I’ve done it way too many times over the years. Wishing you luck and perseverance. I’ve just started Your Heart is a Muscle… and am enjoying it so far — it reminds me of Smith Henderson’s writing.

    • That’s a great comparison! I really loved Fourth of July Creek, too, so I’m glad to see more books like it.

  • Amanda

Good luck! I am looking forward to hearing about Your Heart is A Muscle!

  • Was in the same position last year…exciting to be moving – not the best time to be trying to read! Hope all goes well and unpacking eventually gets finished.

  • Good luck! Unpacking is up there with my least favorite things in the world! But, I do love your counter tops and backsplash :) There is a fantastic kitchen waiting for you under there!

  • And I do hope you’ll post pics once you’re done unpacking! I’m in redecorate mode! <3

    • Definitely! We have a month + wait for our living room furniture, so it may be a while – boo!

      • That sucks! Patience is not a thing I do well. In the case of living room furniture especially.

  • Well, I just can’t believe you didn’t get any reading done with all that packing, moving, unpacking, organizing, yada yada yada. ;) I do hope things settle down for you, and the books will wait for you to escape into them. LOVE the kitchen (floors, countertops), and the armchair goes nicely. ;)

    • I think I need to take myself to a coffee shop or something for an hour or so – when I’m here I just see a giant mess and can’t take any time to do anything fun ;)

  • Haha! Good luck with your unpacking. I’m sure the reading will be ten times better once you’re settled into your new place!

  • Hahaha! This is SO TRUE! How do the most random things end up in the kitchen (or any other room that is waiting to be unpacked)? Ahhh…moving. There’s just nothing like it. One box at a time, my friend!

  • It’s so weird to not see a big new list from you on a Monday! Good excuse, though. ;) Good luck unpacking!

  • Hang in there! Unpacking is no fun!

  • I love this post! I feel your pain but hopefully the rough part is over.

  • Wooh! The big move is done … ;)

  • I got a tension headache just looking at that photo. No chance of reading in bed before you fall asleep? That was all that saved me as I tried to remember where the dish soap/cereal bowls/corkscrew/tee shirts was/were.

Stay sane and soon enough you’ll be able to enjoy your beautiful new home!

    • I’ve been able to get some reading in the last few nights now that we’ve slowed down a bit. Definitely can’t wait to enjoy things!

  • Hang in there! You will be done with boxes and enjoying your new home and books again before you know it!

  • Love this haha. Sorry that packing and unpacking is such a huge pain. One day it will be done!! Or you can run away now, abandon your home, and go live in the woods with your pile of books. Up to you.

  • I’ll be weird and admit I love to unpack and organize. I love the idea of giving each thing its spot, it’s probably the librarian in me. Good luck getting everything where it needs to go AND fitting in time to read.

    • I actually really like the organizing part (almost as much as I like purging before a move!), but I hate the in-between phase we’re in now…waiting for furniture, etc has me itching to get done!
