It’s Monday, May 30th. What Are You Reading?

Know the Mother Natural Way

I’m lucky enough to have a three day weekend this week, but today is a little busier than the relaxing day I’d like it to be. My family is coming down from Michigan in a few days, so we’re getting our house ready for guests and I’m trying to wrap up a bit of the work I need to get done to enjoy my time with them later. Expect pictures of Richmond-y things and my cute nephew on Instagram and Snapchat.

I’m not sure how much time I’ll have for reading over the next week, what with being the hostess with the mostess and all, but I was able to square away some time with my books over the weekend. Earlier this week I gobbled up a short story collection called Know the Mother by Desiree Cooper, which is just as good as it’s fabulous cover. And over the last two days I’ve been lost in Charlotte Wood’s The Natural Way of Things, an Australian novel I’ve been desperately looking forward to that is totally living up to expectations.

It’s Monday, What Are You Reading?

  • Those covers, ahhhh! And you know I’m always up for a short story collection.

  • Oooh I really do like the cover for Know the Mother, I’m going to check that one out. Right now I’m reading When Breath Becomes Air. I’ve been wanting to read this one for awhile, but I wanted to wait until I was in the right mood for it. I hope you enjoy the time with your family!

  • Oooh – I love all things Australian…will have to check out Natural Way of Things. And any zoo trips on the itinerary for your nephew?! My son demands it every time we go to Richmond.

  • The Know The Mother cover is KILLER. How have I not heard of this book?? And I can’t wait to get my hands on Natural Way of Things.

  • Oooh… I’ve heard such good things about The Natural Way of Things. Good to see it’s made its way over to this side of the world!

  • Oh, a new short story collection?!! FABULOUS!! I’m going to check it out, Shannon; thanks for the recommendation! Hope things go well with your family visit.

    • Everyone’s staying in my house for the first time, so I’m a little frazzled, but I think it will be okay ;)

  • I hope you have a great time with the fam! I absolutely cannot wait to get to The Natural Way Of Things!!!!

  • Enjoy your time with family! And, I absolutely love that cover for Know the Mother. I think I might give that one a go.

  • I’m going to have to check out “Know the Mother.” It’s been a while since I really got into a good short story collection!

  • Good luck with all the hostessing! I know you will be amazing at it!

  • I do NOT read short story collections as often as I should! Sounds fantastic. I picked up Brooklyn, by Colm Toibin this week, and I’m just slowly sinking into the world that he’s describing. Early swoony book love :)

  • I have SUCH high hopes for The Natural Way of Things.
