There is an inner, subjective, inner world of colors, just as there is an objective, outer world. Chromotherapy has become a science that has tried to prove since 1973 that in a pleasant color environment, with well-chosen and assorted shades of orange, light blue, and yellow, children’s intelligence and creativity increases substantially, and in terms of emotional life, the richness of inner feelings, taste for beauty, the differences are even more significant. It was also found that the differential sensitivity of children raised in the country, in a very rich and varied colorful universe is higher than that of children raised within the gray walls of a city. The use of a varied chromatic field increases the efficiency of intellectual activity and influences human behavior by triggering positive emotional feelings.
The Influence of Colors on Psychological Processes
Studying the influence of colors on psychological processes, it was found that students who study teaching materials with chromatic visualization achieve superior performance to those who study materials with achromatic visualizations. Color brings joy or sorrow, heals wounds, depression, develops intelligence and imagination, ensures superior work performance, removes fatigue, and creates a good mood. There are currently many institutes in the world for research into the use of color. Great emphasis is placed on the use of colors, contrasts, and color combinations in the most varied situations and areas of life.
In the work On spirituality in art and especially in painting, Vas Kandiskz states that the emotion that color exerts on the soul is all the stronger the more cultivated in the spirit of the man on whom color is exerted. «Art has this purpose of cultivating the spirit, and the understanding of art begins from childhood, by understanding the specific notions, by that »education through the language and grammar of art« as Ion Susala calls it in »everyday color«. The child, the beneficiary of art, the man of tomorrow, acquires »the grammar of the language he uses in understanding art or, perhaps, in its creation and the animator and mentor of this acquisition is every teacher. For this, we must master very well, in addition to mathematics, Romanian language, and other fundamental disciplines, the grammar of fine arts.
The Importance of Art Education
We aim to provide children with the fundamental notions and knowledge of science, to make artistic messages understood, to «cultivate the spirit», the taste, the aesthetic sense. The problem of the need for plastic language has acquired an artistic dimension, an essential expression of personality, which is not just a genetic inheritance that is announced from early childhood, but a chance for physical-psycho-behavioral balance.
What can be changed through education depends on the quality of the specific training. The notions of chromatology can be presented to children only taking into account their age peculiarities. These notions must be made accessible by explanation, exemplification with the help of models, and, of course, by exercise. The models are didactic drawings, art reproductions, works of some students, and, often, even their own works.
There is a «methodical guide» that briefly explains some notions of plastic language, at a level quite difficult to access. The paper explains the problems of chromatology to facilitate understanding by the «animator» of the art education class, as I have taught them over the years. The school is the only place where the student can acquire knowledge of art in an organized way, where he can be educated through this language of feeling. Of course, we will not limit ourselves only to the drawing class, but we will use every opportunity in the didactic activity to highlight the beautiful, but the plastic education class remains the framework in which the notions of the specific language can be acquired systematically and understood.
Even if the way of harmonizing the colors will not be theorized too much to the student of grades I-IV, when he follows him at work, the teacher intervenes with suggestions, solutions for solving a contrast, or reaching a problem proposed for work. That is why, I consider that we, the guides on the path of knowledge, have the duty to master clearly the issue of «the grammar of education through the language of art.
